What exactly are BOT environmental projects?

BOT is the abbreviation of Build-Operate-Transfer. It is a form of project financing, in which the government grants a concession to a private company to invest, build, and operate the whole, or a part of, an infrastructure project, as well as to offer related services for a designated period. Once the concession period is over, the private sector entity will transfer all its operational assets back to the government under the original terms. BOT environmental projects increase private participation in enhancing and constructing environmental engineering projects, with an aim to conserving natural resources and improving efficiency in water and electricity usage.
